Our Master Esthetician, Alex, wanted to provide skin tips & product recommendations to our patients based on their skin instants. A skin instant is a skin analysis system that takes an in-depth snapshot of your skin to identify and provide a precise recommendation of products & treatments for each individual. Today we are focusing on mature skin instants.
To find your true skin instant, you will want to book a skincare consultation by calling 703-327-8200.
Use a gentle (yet effective) cleanser - Cleansing your skin preserves your skin barrier and removes SPF/makeup/pollutants/bacteria accumulated from the day. Your skincare products will be absorbed and work more effectively after you cleanse. Always double cleanse at night time to get rid of the different kinds of dirt on your face. Your face is getting cleaner than if you used only one cleanser that may not fully remove everything.
Use an exfoliant - As we age, our cell turnover slows down - and the skin starts to look dull and uneven. It’s important to rid dead skin cells from our skin so that they don’t build up, causing dull skin.
Pat, don’t rub, your serums - Serums have higher concentrations of active ingredients which help to increase collagen production. Serums also have antioxidants that soak up oxidative stressors that speed up the aging process in our skin.
Moisturize - Fine lines are an indication of inadequate skin hydration. This can be fixed with a good, hydrating moisturizer with water-binding humectants like glycerin and hyaluronic acid. The skin must be properly prepped first to absorb these hydrating ingredients.
Always apply your sunscreen - The sun is responsible for so much of our skin’s visible signs of aging - it breaks down collagen and causes abnormalities with elastin, causing facial sagging. Uneven-pigmented patches will also begin to develop. It’s important to use SPF every day (at least SPF30) to fade age spots, improve skin texture, and flatten out wrinkles.
- Look after the rest of your body, too! - Other key areas that expose your age are your neck, chest, and hands - take care of them and keep them covered in SPF!
